Start Making Our Felt Edelweiss Flower Ball
Step One — Prepare The Flowers
Copy the two flower motifs onto tracing paper, transfer them onto Bristol board, and carefully cut them out. Use a soft pencil to trace the large template onto the reverse side of the ivory felt and the small template onto the reverse of the beige felt. Make 34 copies of each shape.
Cut out all the shapes, keeping just inside the pencil lines. Create a 1.5cm (5/8in) cut down the center of each beige petal.
Step Two — Assemble The Edelweiss Felt Flower Ball
Place a beige flower shape across an ivory flower shape and secure the two together with three stitches at the center. Sew three mother-of-pearl beads in the center of the flowers.
Cut a 3.5cm (1 3/8in) length of silver chenille ribbon and loop it around the three beads. Trim to fit, then secure the ribbon ends with four or five small stitches. Repeat this process for all the other flower heads.
Finish Making The Felt Edelweiss Flower Ball
Step Three — Prepare The Ball
Create a loop at the center of the white organdie ribbon and secure it at the top of the polystyrene ball using two large-headed pins. Wrap the remaining organdie ribbon around the ball, securing it in place with a few regular pins.
Overlap the ribbon ends slightly at the base and trim any excess. Remove the pins, apply fabric glue to the ribbon ends, and allow it to dry. Repeat this process with the silver cord and silver organdie ribbon.
Step Four — Attach The Felt Flower
Place the edelweiss flowers individually onto the ball, securing them with pins inserted halfway into the center of the flowers.
Once all the flowers are evenly spread over the ball, push the pins in fully to secure the flowers in place.
