Paint Your Shoes and Make a Real Fashion Statement
It is really fun to decorate your own clothing and then wear it. Most people are interested in fashion and if you can make it more personalised, that can be really fun.
Here, we can take a simple pair of fabric shoes and decorate them and make them really fun and unique.
If you are having a party or just dressing up, then try out this great project and paint your shoes.
Things You Need To Paint Your Shoes
- White fabric shoes
- Old newspaper or tissue paper
- Fabric paints, (fabric paint is usually set using a hot iron, ask an adult for help)
- Ribbons
- Beads
- Wooden stock or paintbrush
Prepare Our Shoes For Painting
Step One
To start with our paint your shoes project we need to remove the shoe laces.
Then stuff the shoes with old newspaper or some tissue paper or something to make the fabric less floppy. We are going to paint on the fabric so we stuff the shoes to hold the shoe fabric in place for painting.

Step Two
Now we can start painting the dots. Make sure your stick has a flat end and dip it in the fabric paint. You can use a cotton bud or even a paintbrush here. Remember, these are your shoes, so you can decorate them exactly how you like.
Dots are easy and look nice, so dab spots of paint around your white fabric shoes.
But take your time, sometimes less paint makes the designs look better. So if you are unsure, practise on a piece of paper. Or even do part of the painting, then wait and come back later when the paint is dried. This way you can see your painting design with fresh eyes and you will be able to see what extra paint you need.

Step Three
Finally, leave the paint to dry thoroughly. Then you can replace the laces. Or you can change the laces and add some ribbons instead. If you want to add some ribbons, use the old laces to measure the length of ribbon you need.
If using ribbon, wrap some sticky tape tightly around the ends of the ribbons to stop them fraying.

To fix the paint, follow the instructions on the bottle. Usually you have to fix the paint using a hot iron. Ask an adult to help, as this can be fiddly on a pair of shoes.
