Start Making The Sweetheart Felt Gift Card
Step One — Prepare The Heart Shape
Enlarge the heart shape by the amount you want and trace it onto Bristol board. Cut out the heart shape from the Bristol board. Place the Bristol board shape onto the reverse side of the ivory felt and trace around the outline with a fabric pen.
Cut out the heart shape from the felt, following the markings. Repeat the same process with the white embroidered netting, carefully cutting out the heart shape using embroidery scissors.
Lay the netting heart on top of the felt heart and trim if necessary. Cut three narrow felt strips measuring 4mm x 12cm (5/32 x 4 3/4in) to make three loops. Sew these loops onto the right side of the felt heart, positioning them at the top center. Place the netting on the right side of the heart, aligning the edges. Join the two layers together with blanket stitch using white perle cotton and a chenille needle. Leave a small opening and insert a few sweets inside.
Make The Bird Cage Felt Gift Card
Step One — Prepare The Bird Shapes
Enlarge the body and wings of the bird by 170% and trace them onto Bristol board using tracing paper. Cut out the bird shapes from the Bristol board.
Step Two — Cut Out The Felt Shapes
Place each bird shape onto the reverse side of the ivory felt and trace around the outlines using a fabric pen. Cut out the shapes from the felt, staying inside the marked lines.
Step Three — Attach Feathers
Position a feather on each wing, and if necessary, trim them so they extend about 1cm (3/8in) beyond the wings.
Apply a small amount of glue to each wing and adhere the feathers securely. Glue the upper wing beneath the body and then glue the lower wing on top of the body.
Step Four — Attach The Bird To The Felt Gift Card
Apply a layer of glue to the back of the felt bird and affix it to the front of the greetings card. Thread the ribbon through the loop on the tassel.
Use a hole punch to make a small hole at the center of the card's outside edge. Thread the ribbon through the hole and tie it into a bow.
