Start Making The Felt Angel Baby Blanket
Step 1 — Make Up the Motifs
Enlarge the cloud template and cherub template by the amount you want, then trace them separately onto Bristol board. Carefully cut out the templates using paper scissors.
Place the cloud template on the reverse of the blue felt and the cherub template on the reverse of the white felt. Trace the outlines onto the felt using a fabric pen, then cut out each motif with embroidery scissors.
Use a craft knife to cleanly cut out the slits above and below the cherub's arms. Remove any markings with a damp cloth.
Step 2 — Sew On the Motifs
On the reverse of each piece of woollen fabric, mark a rectangle measuring 58 x 78cm (22 3/4 x 30 1/2in) with a fabric pen, and cut it out using dressmaking scissors.
Lay the cloud with the cherub motif on top towards one corner of the violet blanket, ensuring that the top of the cherub's head is 7.5cm (3in) from the edge.
Pin the two motifs onto the felt angel baby blanket and sew them on with small running stitches. Use a chenille needle to sew a couching stitch all the way around the cloud, using doubled lengths of fluffy thread for the laid thread and white sewing thread for the tying thread.

Step 3 — Paint the Feathers
Trace the shapes of the different feathers from the stencils onto tracing paper and cut them out. Pin the paper feathers onto the blanket, arranging them to your liking while avoiding overcrowding the design.
Alternate between small and large feathers. Mix one third pearl white paint with two thirds white paint in a small saucer. Lay the blanket flat on a stable surface. Remove one of the paper feathers and place the corresponding stencil in its place.
Apply a small amount of paint to the stencil brush and gently dab the paint onto the blanket. Repeat this process for all the feathers. Allow the paint to dry overnight, then iron each feather on the reverse side for several minutes to set the paint.
Step 4 — Finishing Touches To The Felt Angel Baby Blanket
Lay the two blankets one on top of the other, with wrong sides together, and pin them at 5cm (2in) intervals along the edges.
Sew the two blankets together all the way around with a couching stitch, using the fluffy thread doubled, similar to how you did for the cloud motif.
