Start Making Our Festive Felt Heart Decoration
Prepare the Motifs
Resize the heart motif and print it. Use tracing paper to transfer the motif onto Bristol board and cut it out. Place the heart shape on the reverse side of the brown felt and trace it twice using a gel pen.
Repeat this step for the mittens on the red felt. Cut out the four felt shapes.
Decorate the Mittens
Use pinking shears to create a decorative edge along the top of one mitten, folding it to the right side. Sew a piece of red and bronze ricrac braid across the top of the folded-over fabric using invisible stitches. Attach four red seed beads along the zigzag edge.
Sew two heart-shaped sequins in the center of the mitten. Repeat these steps for the other mitten.
Finish Making The Festive Felt Heart
Decorate the Festive Felt Heart
On the right side of one of the heart shapes, sew on the two mittens using small brown stitches. Using red perle cotton, attach the five metal snowflakes with a tacking stitch along the base of each arm.
Sew the edelweiss button at the top of the heart, approximately 1cm (3/8in) from the center point.
Assembly
Use pinking shears to cut a 16 x 2cm (6 1/4 x 3/4in) strip from the red felt. Sew a length of ricrac braid along the center of the strip with invisible stitching.
Fold the strip in half and sew it onto the reverse side of the decorated heart. Pin the two heart shapes together, back to back. Sew them together with a blanket stitch using a chenille needle threaded with red perle cotton. About 4cm (1 1⁄2in) before completing the stitching, and without unthreading your needle, stuff the heart with kapok. Finish by closing it with a blanket stitch.
