What Is It About Paper Snowflakes That Makes You Feel Good
Paper snowflakes are one of those craft projects, that are very easy to make. And yet, make such an amazing visual difference to your Christmas decoration. Like paper chains, I love making paper snowflakes.
If you make paper snowflakes each year with your children, you almost start associating all the happy feelings together.
We use the snowflakes to decorate windows and walls and tabletops. They can be made from tissue paper or thicker paper, and hung from thread.
What do we need to make paper snowflakes
Start Making A Paper Snowflake
We start by taking a square piece of paper. Fold it in diagonally. Then fold it in half again. We now have a small folded paper triangle.
Be careful to note which is the side with the open ends. This will be the outside of the completed snowflake, if that makes sense. The point with no open sides near it, this will be the centre of the snowflake.
Design A Paper Snowflake
Use the pencil and start drawing triangles and curved shapes on the folded paper. This will take a bit of experience to make more and more complex designs. You need to see how a few turn out, before you can tell how to make them more and more complex.
So don't worry too much about the design at the beginning. Make a nice simple paper snowflakes to start.
Cut Out The Snowflake Design
Now we can use our scissors and start cutting out the shapes we drew before. Take your time and ask an adult to help you if needed.
Remember to not worry too much if you miss a few shapes. We can always make more paper snowflakes, and it's fun to make loads of anyway.
Finishing The Paper Snowflake
Finally, when we finish cutting out the shapes, we can gently unfold the paper. Take your time and be careful not to rip the paper. Once the paper is unfolded you can press the paper snowflake flat onto your worktop and smooth it out with your hand.
You can make paper snowflakes from any sized pieces of paper and different types and colours of paper.
There are people out there who can make incredibly detailed and complicated looking snowflakes. But these people have been making snowflakes for years.
Have fun just making fun shapes. And if you like making them, you can slowly make them more and more complicated each new Christmas.
