It is really fun making paper cut lanterns, especially only as you need a few simple craft materials to make them. And you can use any coloured handmade paper that you like, and create any paper lantern cut out design that you like.

Things You Will Need To Make Paper Cut Lanterns
Materials
- Pastel Coloured Textured Handmade Paper
- Double Sided Tape

- Tracing Paper
- Pencil
- Craft Knife
- Cutting Mat
- Ruler
- Kitchen Knife
Making The Paper Cut Design For The Cylinder Paper Cut Lanterns
Step 1
Firstly, choose the designs that you would like for your paper cut lanterns and make sure that it will fit onto a piece of handmade paper measuring roughly 20cm X 30cm. Use the tracing paper to trace your template and transfer the design onto the handmade paper.
Step 2
Then use the sharp craft knife and cutting mat to carefully cut out your design following the traced outlines that you just made.
Sticking The Paper Cut Lantern Together

Next, place a piece of double sided tape along the short side of the handmade paper lantern design and pull away the backing of the tape.

Then curve the lantern to make a cylinder shape and press it firmly together at the overlap to ensure that it is stuck together well.
Making A Triangular Paper Lantern

For the triangular shaped paper cut lantern, repeat the same process as the cylinder lantern shape by making a template to trace and transfer onto another sheet of handmade paper. And then cut out the outlines of your design as before, except leave a part of the line uncut, so that the piece is still attached
Step 6
Then lightly crease the uncut edge of each part of the design, to allow it to protrude from the background and stand out from the paper cut lantern.
Assembling The Triangular Paper Cut Lantern

Next, on the reverse side of the paper, score vertically down the paper in three places using a ruler and the back edge of a kitchen knife.
Step 8
Then fold along the scored lines, and bend the lantern into a triangular shape, and finally stick the overlap together using some double sided tape.
