Bring Nature Home With This Decorative Leaf Wall Art
I have always really loved making artwork for my home. Something really simple, yet very detailed, is creating beautiful pieces of framed art with skeletonised leaves. You can buy these from craft shops or online. They come in all different shapes and sizes. You can also get them in a wide range of colours.
I mostly use the natural or white ones for artwork, but use other colours on cards for family and friends. You only need a few items to make this decorative leaf wall art. Some basic crafting materials and a picture frame. I have lots of old frames in my loft, but you can pick them up at charity shops for under £1.

Painting And Sanding Picture Frame
1st Step
I love making decorative leaf wall art. Let's begin with the picture frame. Start by taking the frame apart and sand it down to create a nice smooth surface for painting. Then paint the picture frame using a colour of your choice.
2nd Step
Once the paint is dry, sand it down lightly again to leave a slight colour on the surface, but allow the wood to show through. The colour that you applied should highlight the mouldings of the picture frame.
Backing Paper For A Picture
3rd Step
Next, using the hardboard backing of the picture frame as a template for your chosen backing paper, draw around it using a pencil.
4th Step
Now, cut out your backing paper with scissors and glue it onto the back of the frame.

5th Step
Now for the really fun part. Prepare your skeletonised leaf by gently rubbing it with gilt wax. This may take a little time as you will need to be slow and gentle.
6th Step
Next, glue a piece of handmade paper onto the backing of the picture frame in the centre. And then mount the leaf on top. Then finally, put the frame back together, and now you have a beautiful piece of decorative leaf wall art for your wall.
