Begin by cutting out the fabric pieces. You'll need two 10 x 12 1/2-inch pieces of floral fabric and two matching pieces of lining fabric for the base of the bag. For the Union Jack design, cut the specified strips of floral, turquoise dotted, and blue silk fabrics.

Apply Bondaweb to the back of all the strips, then peel off the backing. Arrange the strips into the Union Jack design on one of the pieces of floral fabric, using a reference image as a guide. Iron the strips in place. Set your sewing machine to an open zigzag stitch and machine-stitch around the edges of the design. Trim any excess fabric that extends over the edges of the base fabric.

Turn under 5/8 inch (1.5 cm) along the shorter top edge of both pieces of floral fabric and the lining pieces. Press them. Place the zipper right side up and position the floral fabric pieces on either side of the zipper, right side up, with the folded edge near the zipper teeth. Baste (tack) the zipper in place and then machine stitch it.

Flip the floral section over. Place the two pieces of lining on top of the floral pieces, right side up, with the folded edge close to the zipper teeth. Use a slip stitch to secure the lining in place along the zipper tape.

Fold the makeup bag right sides together, leaving the zipper slightly open. Pin it in place and machine-stitch around the bag. Trim the corners and seam allowances, being careful not to cut through the stitching.

Open the zipper and turn the bag right side out. Stitch one of the tiny decorative buttons to the center of the front.

Create a decorative heart charm: Bond a scrap of blue silk to a piece of pink felt using Bondaweb. Cut a small heart shape from the silk-felt combination and another from plain felt. Attach the remaining two decorative buttons to the plain felt heart. Place the heart pieces together with right sides facing outward, and use blanket stitch around the edges, leaving a small opening for filling. Make a bow using the blue ribbon and stitch it to the front of the heart.
