Let's Make Some Fun Finger Puppets
Here we are going to make some really fun finger puppets from coloured felt and little buttons. We can also use scraps of other felt and rick rack or wavy tape. It is a great to inspire creativity and endless fun. Once you have made your finger puppets characters, you can have fun making a little play.

What we need to make fun finger puppets
- Paper
- Scissors
- 1 sheet of felt
- Other coloured felt scraps
- Pencil
- Pinking shears
- Embroidery thread and needle
- Wooden button
- 3d fabric paint
- Felt glue
- Wavy rick rack trim
- Knitting wool
Let's Start Making Our Finger Puppet
Step One
See the template above. We want to make this template about 3 times the width of our finger. Either print the template out at the correct size. Then cut it out and draw around it onto some felt.
Or freehand draw the shape straight onto your sheet of felt. We need two of these shapes, one for the front and one for the back of our fun finger puppet.
Now we need to cut out the shapes with our pinking shears. Pinking shears leave a funny zig zag edge. This stops the fabric fraying.
Now Let's Start Sewing Our Fun Finger Puppet
Step Two
Now thread the needle with embroidery thread and start sewing the two halves together. Sewing a running stitch in and out, up and around the top and back down the other side. Make sure to leave the bottom open for your finger. Ask an adult for help.
Now draw a little face on the wooden button using the 3d fabric pen. The little button holes can be eyes. Leave the button to dry completely.
Remember you can make your fun finger puppet however you like. They can be happy or sad or silly or bossy. Make more than one character so they can have a chat.
Now We Can Decorate Our Fun Finger Puppet
Step Three
Glue the button face in place on the felt finger puppet. Now we can continue to decorate our finger puppet. Cut a length of rick rack tape to fit along the bottom edge. Rick rack tape is wavy tape used in sewing. Glue the strip of rick rack tape to the finger puppet.
Now use the 3d fabric pen again to add more details to your fun finger puppet. How about some hair and buttons and anything you like.

Step Four
Find your other pieces of scrap felt and cut out any other details you like. How about a bow tie or a handbag or anything you like. Make braids or plaits from wool and glue them in place.
