How To Make An Egg Carton Ant Model
Step One
To start making our egg carton ant model, we take our egg cartons and some scissors. Carefully use your scissors to cut out two sections of the egg carton. The two sections need to be kept joined together. Ask an adult to help with the cutting.
As most egg cartons have spaces for six eggs, we could make three egg carton ant models at once.
Now paint our two sections with the brown paint. Leave the paint to dry on our ant model. Your model may need another coat if it looks patchy. Give it another coat and let it dry again.

Step Two
Once the paint is dry, we can start decorating. Now we know ants have six legs. So cut six equal lengths of brown pipe cleaner. Each Length of pipe cleaner should be around 10cms or 4 inches.
Glue three of the legs along one side, underneath. And then the other three legs along the other side. You may have to wait for the glue on one side to dry a little before starting the other side.
Once the glue is dry and the legs are stuck, bend them into funny ant leg shapes.

Step Three
Now take your little papier mache balls and paint them brown too. Let the paint dry. Glue these balls onto the front of the ant model. They will be the ant's eyes. Once that glue is dried, we can glue on the googly, wobbly eyes on to the front of the brown balls.
Finishing Making Our Egg Carton Ant Model
Step Four
Now ask an adult to use an awl or a cocktail stick to poke a hole in the ant's head. An awl is a tool for poking holes. Poke a hole above each eye. Then cut two more pieces of brown pipe cleaner 3cms long or 1 and a half inches long.
These will be the ant's antennae. Now pop the pipe cleaners into the holes and glue on the underside to hold them in place.
And there we have finished our fun little egg carton ant model. Now make some friends for them and send them on a little ant adventure.
