Inspire Your Child’s Imagination With Finger Puppets
Literally everyone will love making these fingers puppets. A great way to get the family together. Each person can make their own characters and then you can all have fun at the end making up a story.
Easy for old and young alike. Fingers puppets can be sewn together or even simply just glued for those who are not so able with the sewing needle.
Look for inspiration in books or online. Finger puppet animals are always a favourite. Or simply create your own characters. The finger puppet possibilities are endless.
Things You Need To Make Finger Puppets:
- Paper for templates
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Pins
- Felt in different colours
- Pinking shears if needed
- Three dimensional fabric paint
Let’s Start Making a Finger Puppet
Really this finger puppet tutorial is just a guide. You can, of course, go wild and create anything your imagination can come up with. Even mistakes can end up being really fun. I have made many wobbly faced animals.
You just make a wobbly faced voice and personality to go with your wobbly faced finger puppet.
So first, copy the template to a piece of paper and cut them out. Make sure that your finger puppet is a good size for your finger.
Pin the paper templates to your felt and carefully cut around your templates. We need two body shapes so we can pop our finger into the puppet's body.
We can use the zig-zag pinking shears here to give our little puppet a wobbly furry looking body. But you can just use normal scissors also.
Make Our Finger Puppets Body
So now hold the two halves of our finger puppet's body together. Take your needle and thread and slowly and carefully sew around the edge. Remember to leave the bottom section. We need to leave it open so we can put our finger in there.
For younger puppeteers you can glue the two felt body parts together.
Our Puppet Needs a Head
We are making a lion finger puppet. So pop some small blobs of glue to the back of the lion's mane and stick it in place on top of the body shape. Push it down firmly and let the glue dry.
What Character Does Our Finger Puppet Have?
Now our finger puppet needs a face and here is where we can add some character. Is your lion scary or are they funny? Or maybe you have a sad lion.
Finally, use the three-dimensional paint to draw a face on your finger puppet character. Draw a face that matches his or her personality.
And that's it, we have our first super scary lion finger puppet. Have fun making more finger puppets and practise your roooooaaaaarrrr and maybe put on a finger puppets show.
