Making Pyjama Shorts Is Fun And Keeps You Cool In The Summer
If you have a pair of pyjamas that are getting a bit old and boring, then why not make them into some fun pyjama shorts. We can cut them up and decorate them and make them your pyjamas super special all over again.
Here we are going to add some rick rack tape and ribbons to our pyjama shorts.
What You Need To Make Pyjama Shorts
- A pair of old pyjamas
- Scissors
- Pins
- Needle
- Sewing thread
- 1.2m or 4 feet of rick rack tape
First To Make Pyjama Shorts We Cut Up Our Old Pyjamas
Step One
To start making pyjama shorts, we first need to cut the legs off our old pyjamas. Here we measure down from the crotch about 5cms or 2 inches. We want to cut across from here. You can make your shorts longer if you like.
Cut straight across neatly, using sharp scissors.
Now We Can Hem Our Pyjama Shorts
Step Two
Now we need to sew some hems where we cut off the legs. So pick the first leg hole and carefully turn in a hem. Roll it over twice to hide the edge we cut. You can turn the pyjama shorts inside out, if this makes it easier. Also ask an adult to press the hem flat to make it easier again. You can also add pins if you feel that would help.
Carefully sew around the hem, use whatever stitch you feel works best. Running stitch or backstitch, or even a whipstitch would be good. We are really just having fun, so don't worry too much about precise stitching.
Now We Can Decorate Our Pyjama Shorts
Step Three
Next we can cut a length of rick rack tape that will fit around the first leg hole. Use a running stitch and sew the rick rack tape around the first leg, just a little way above the seam.
Neatly fold the ends over at the start and end of the sewing to try and make it look nice. But don't worry if you forget this.
Finish Making Our Pyjama Shorts
Step Four
To finish making our pyjama shorts, cut another length of rick rack tape approximately 20cm or 8 inches long. Tie the rick rack tape in a bow and cut any excess off at an angle. This helps prevent fraying.
Finally sew the bow to the centre of the waistband and we have finished making our super fun and cool pyjama shorts.
This is great project for when you are sitting in front of the TV. Pop a pillow on your lap and have a good sew and a chat.
