Gardening is a relaxing and slow process and that is lovely. It's fun to check how your plants are growing each week. But often you plant something quickly and a few weeks or months later you can't quite remember what it was that you planted.

Step One
First we need to paint our lollipop sticks white. We do this for a number of reasons. Obviously some of our gardening plant labels will spend a lot of time outside in all the elements. So painting them first gives the wood another layer of protection.
Also, when we paint our gardening plant labels white first, this makes the colours we paint on top really pop out.
It's a little bit more work to paint them first. But I would rather look at some beautiful, bright coloured labels for the whole of the next year.
So paint your wooden sticks all over and even give them another coat if you like.

Now, once the white paint has dried, we can start with some colours.
It's a good idea to get a little production line going. You will always need more gardening plant labels than you think. So paint a load of them white first and let them all dry at once.
Think about a design or maybe colour codes. Like pink for flowers and green for veggies, maybe blue for herbs. These are your labels, so you can decorate them how you like.
If you make a mistake or change your mind, you can just paint them back to white and start over again.

Step Three
A good idea when painting is to start with the larger blocks of colours first. Let the paint dry, then do smaller and smaller blocks of colours.
Simple designs like spots and stripes work really well, but have fun experimenting. Don't forget to paint both sides if you can walk around your plants.
Finally once all the paint is dried. You can use a thick permanent black marker and write the names of your seeds, blubs or plants on the stick.
Even if you don't grow the same plants each year, it's fun to keep the old gardening plant labels as a nice reminder of what you grew before.
