Make Juggling Bean Bags for Juggling or Games
Bean bags are brilliant for loads of games. Balls are so annoying how they are always rolling away or bouncing around everywhere. So make juggling bean bags and learn to juggle or play a game with a friend where you try and toss them on to a target across your living room.
What do we need to make juggling beans bags?
- Fabric pieces
- Thread and needle
- Dried split peas, beans or lentils
- Scissors
Let's Start Making A Bean Bag
Step One
First, when we make juggling bean bags we need to cut fabric squares. Cut your fabric squares 10cm x 10cm or 4 inches square.
Think about how many bean bags you want to make and cut enough pieces of fabric to make your juggling bean bags.
Now we need to lay the fabric pieces one on top of the other. Make sure the nice sides of the fabric are in the middle facing each other. This is because we are going to sew them together, then turn the fabric inside out. Then our nice fabric side will be on the outside.
Cut The Bean Bag Fabric And Stitch
Step Two
So now we have our two pieces of fabric, one on top of each other. With the nice sides of the fabric on the inside. We can start sewing around three of the edges.
Sew around three of the edges about 1cm or 3/8ths of an inch, in from the edge.
When we do our sewing, make sure your stitches are tight together. If your stitches are not tight, the dried beans or lentils will slip through your stitches.
If you know an adult with a sewing machine, ask if they will help you do this sewing on their machine.

Step Three
Once we have completed the sewing around three sides. We can snip off the corners and then turn it inside out.
We snip off the corners so, when we turn it inside out, the corners aren't all bunched up inside. But this part is not critical.

Fill Our Bean Bag With Dried Beans Or Lentils
Step Four
Now we have a little pouch, we can start filling it with our bean bag filling. Fill it about three-quarters full with dried beans, lentils or peas.
Finish Making The Bean Bag
Step Five
Finally, the last stage to make juggling bean bags is to simply close the opening. Fold over the cut edges of the opening before you sew it closed. This is so we have a nice neat edge. Now carefully sew closed the opening with an overstitch.
And there you go!
The first bean bag you make, might be a little bit fiddly. But then the next few will be loads easier. Make juggling bean bags and make lots of them. Then have fun making up lots of fun games to play with your friends and family.
How far can you throw the bean bags to your friends and still catch them. And how many can you juggle?
