- Cut two 6 x 20in. (15 x 50cm) panels of striped fabric.
- Cut two 10 x 6in. (25 x 15cm) panels of pink printed fabric.
- Cut one 20 x 20in. (50 x 50cm) piece of white fabric.
- Cut one 10 x 10in. (25 x 25cm) piece of white fabric.
Create a butterfly appliqué design on the smaller square of white fabric using silk and floral fabric. Add embroidery, beading, sequins, and buttons to the butterfly design. Use the template as a guide.
Assemble the Front Panel
Step Two
Machine stitch the two pink printed pieces onto the top and bottom of the butterfly panel. Press seams open. Attach the striped side panels to each side.
Sew the Bag Together
Step Three
Place the front of the bag right sides together with the back. Machine stitch around the sides and bottom edge only, leaving a small gap in one side seam about 2in. (5cm) from the top edge.
Create a Decorative Yo-Yo (Suffolk Puff)
Step Four
Follow the instructions to make a yo-yo in a heart shape. Hand stitch the yo-yo onto the bag. Attach a button to the center of the yo-yo.
Finish the Top Edge and Add the Drawstring
Step Five
Trim the top edge of the bag with pinking shears for a decorative edge. Fold over the top edge to the inside by 2in. (5cm). Pin the ribbon inside the fold, ensuring the ribbon ends come out to the right side through the gap in the side seam mentioned in step 2.
Machine stitch along the folded edge to secure the ribbon, taking care not to stitch through the ribbon. Pull the ribbon to cinch the bag closed and tie the ends into a bow.
With these steps, you can give your old pajamas new life as a delightful pyjama bag for your bedtime essentials.
