What Is It About a Pop up House Card That Make Us Smile?
House moving can be very stressful and often if you can get five minutes of peace and a little surprise, it is like a blissful moment in the chaos. Take the edge off with this pop up house card.
So spend a little time and make a fun pop up card for a friend or family member on the move and put a smile on their tired face.
A simple fun and colourful card that looks hard to make, but is actually pretty easy. Once I tell you all the secrets of course.
What are we going to need for our pop up card?
- Basic papercraft tools
- Blue card, 14 x 28.5cms or 5 and a half x 11 and a quarter inches
- Green card, 15 x 30 cms or 6 x 11 and three quarter inches
How To Make A Simple Pop Up Card
Step One
Score the green and blue pieces of card down the centre, across the width. Now we will create a house template on the blue card. You can create any house design you like to add that extra personalisation. A very clever person might even attempt to copy the new house your friend or family is moving into.
Here we have a very simple house design.
If you have a spare piece of card from a cereal package for example. Create the template there first, then trace around it on the blue card. This way you can keep the template for future projects.
The house design needs to line up perfectly on each side of the fold. Like a mirror image of each other.
Careful Cutting Will Make Our Pop Up Card Work
Step Two
Using a sharp crafting knife, cut the house details out from our pop up house card. Cut holes for the windows and leave one side of the door so you can open it slightly.
Cut around the outside of the house, leaving the bottom still attached to the rest of the blue card. Score lines along the bottom of each house as we are going to fold along this line.
Make sure you cut out everything and that your blue house match up when the blue card is folded along the middle.
Now we can attach our blue pop up house card to the green base card. Use double-sided tape or glue to glue in the blue card into the green card. Make sure their folds at the centre line up and that the pop up house card can still close.
Careful Assembly Of The Pop Up Greetings Card
Step Three
Now open the pop up house card again. And with the card laying flat we can glue our little pop up house together. Open the card and pull up both of the mirrored house shapes. use a cocktail stick to carefully apply white glue along the top roof line and hold the two houses together. Do not use too much glue or you are in danger of making a mess, as we need to close the card to make sure it still lies flat.
Close the pop up house card and make sure it still lies flat. Let the card dry and write a lovely soothing message.
