It's Really Fun To Make Colourful Gift Tags
Today I would like to show you how to make some simple colourful gift tags using some basic craft materials. This is a quick and easy project, that personalises any gift. My previous post shows you how to make some paper gift bags, and I think that these gift tags really complement those paper bags.
Making colourful gift tags is pretty much an essential skill for any serious crafter. And when you add in the how much gift tags cost now a days, I think I have saved a fortune already.
Super tip, when you make any sort of gifty stuff like colourful gift tags, make sure to make more than you need. This way you can build up a little stash for when you or a friend need an emergency gift tag.
Right, let's get going.
Craft Materials & Equipment For Colourful Gift Tags
Coloured Card

Contrasting Ric-Rac String

Hole Punch
Craft Knife
Cutting Mat
Making A Colourful Gift Tag Shape
1st Stage
To start, cut out some gift tag shapes from coloured card, you can choose any colour that you like, my favourite colour is blue. Then draw a simple leaf shape onto the card. You can search the internet for leaf shapes, but really this is not about being super accurate. It's really just a bit of fun, so feel free to freehand a leaf shape.
2nd Stage
Then punch a hole in the top using a hole punch.
Wrapping A Gift
3rd Stage
Then use a craft knife and the cutting mat to cut out most of the leaf shape, but leave the bottom part of the leaf. Then push it outwards so that it stands out from the background. Now wrap your gift in some colourful tissue paper and wrap ric-rac string around it. Thread the gift tag onto it and tie it closed.
Colourful Gift Tags Conclusion
A real simple project, but interesting and effective. I'm sure there will be people out there who will take this simple idea and make something amazingly complex and beautiful. If you try it and have any good results, please leave a comment in the section below.
