Make These Fun Tissue Paper Blooms
These huge tissue paper blooms will really brighten up any occasion. We make them by layering tissue paper and then tease it into an explosion. They are really fun and cheap to make. Maybe collect a few children together and make a little production line.
Why not make them in several sizes and hang them from the ceiling with ribbons.
Things We Need For Tissue Paper Blooms
- For each flower we will use 6 sheets of tissue paper
- Pipe cleaners
- Scissors
- Ribbon for hanging
Start Making Our Tissue Paper Blooms
Step One
For one flower we need to lay 6 sheets of tissue paper on top of each other. Lay them flat on the table. Now start folding the tissue paper in a concertina fashion. Make each fold about 2cms or three quarters of an inch.
A concertina fold basically means you make a fold, then turn over the papers and make another fold. Rather than folding the tissue paper in a rolling up fashion. With a concertina fold the end will look like a zig zag rather than a spiral.
Press down each fold as you go. Fold all the way to the other side. Press as flat as you can. Maybe use a heavy book or ask an adult to use a hot iron to flatten the folds.
Tie The Centre Of The Tissue Paper Blooms
Step Two
Measure the tissue paper pleated length. And then mark the centre with a pencil. Now use a pipe cleaner and tie around the centre. Twist the pipe cleaner as tight as you can. Trim the ends.
You could use string instead of pipe cleaners here. Now tie a longer length of ribbon around the centre so you can hang up the flower blooms when we have finished.
Add Details To The Ends Of The Tissue Paper Blooms
Step Three
Make a curved petal shape at each end of the folded tissue papers. Cut a curve in from the centre to about 4cms or 1 and a half inches from the end. Repeat on both sides and both ends.
Finish Our Tissue Paper Blooms
Step Four
Now is the super fun part.
Once the centre is tied securely. Gently tease out and unfold each pleat. Keep pulling gently and move them around into a flower bloom shape. This can be a little fiddly and you may rip a few pieces, but that is ok, keep going.
Keep pulling the tissue paper apart until a huge bloom is produced.
Carefully hang your flowers in bunches around your party. Try different sizes and colours and maybe cut the ends differently to see what happens.
Have fun and impress your friends with these super fun tissue paper blooms.
