How To Make A Fleece Scarf
Fleece is a lovely, cosy material and is easy to work with, which makes it perfect for clothing projects for children. Fleece fabric does not require hemming as it doesn't fray. So the work is reduced down to mostly just the decorating. Which is always a super fun part.
We are going to decorate our cosy fleece scarf with flower motifs.
Things We Need To Make A Fleece Scarf
- 20cms x 1m / 8 inches x 3 feet of fleece fabric
- Scissors
- Paper
- 2 or 3 squares of felt for flowers
- Fusible web
- Pins
- Needle
- 3 buttons
- Embroidery thread in a different colour
Let's Start To Make A Fleece Scarf
Step One
First we take our piece of fleece and we want to make the fringes in the ends of our scarf. So cut slits into the ends about 2cms apart or three quarters of an inch apart. Cut in as far as you like.
Now Create A Template For Our Cosy Fleece Scarf
Step Two
You can just copy the flower shape by hand, this will make your fleece scarf more personal. Or search the internet for flower shape templates. Or we can use the template above. Copy the template, resize it to the size you want, then print the shape out.
Then cut it out the template with scissors.
Now ask an adult to iron on some fusible web to a piece of felt. Then draw around the flower template onto the paper side of the fusible web. To make a fleece scarf we want six flower shapes. Draw around the template six times and cut out all the flower shapes.
Make The Flower Centres For Our Fleece Scarf
Step Three
Ask an adult again to iron on more fusible web to the back of the felt that you want to be the flower centres. Then draw around the circle template onto the paper side and cut out six circle flower centres.
Arrange Your Flower Details For Your Fleece Scarf
Step Four
Arrange your flower details, three at each end of the scarf. We want the flower shape, then the circle, then a button at the centre.
Once you are happy with the layout, peel off the backing papers from the fusible web and ask an adult to iron the flower details on in place.
Using embroidery thread, sew a blanket stitch around the flowers. Then stitch the felt circle and the button in the centre to finish our pretty flower details.
