What we need to make a simple teddy bear
- Paper and scissor
- 25 x 60xm or 10 x 24 inches of wool fabric or felt
- Pins
- Needle and embroidery thread in 2 different colours
- 4 buttons about 1cm or half an inch
- Toy stuffing
- 40cm or 16 inches of ribbon
Cut Out The Templates To Make A Simple Teddy Bear
Step One
Decide how big you want to make your simple teddy bear. But remember how much felt or wool fabric you have. Use the template above and resize it to the correct size then print it out. Cut around the paper and draw around it on the fabric. And cut out the two halves we need to make a simple teddy bear.
Of course you can free draw your teddy shape and make one exactly how you want.
Now we take one side of the teddy bear and sew on the two buttons in the correct places where our teddies eyes will be. Now we can also add a little nose just below the eyes. Make the nose from a small set of stitches at the centres and two longer stitches going down and out to the sides.

Step Two
Now we can use embroidery thread to carefully sew the edges of the teddy bear together. Use different coloured thread to make an interesting feature of the sewn edge. Here we are using a stitch called a blanket stitch.
When we sew using blanket stitch, we push our needle in from the front side and then back up and around the top, back to the front. Before we go back into the front again, we hook the dangling thread. Have a practise. But really you can sew your simple teddy bear how you like.
Don't forget to pause before you get back around. Leave a little opening so we can stuff our simple teddy bear.
Filling Is The Next Step To Make A Simple Teddy Bear
Step Three
Now we have left a little hole, take your toy stuffing and fill your teddy bear. Use a paintbrush or similar to push the stuffing into the corners. Make sure your teddy feels full but not over stuffed.

When we have finished stuffing our teddy bear toy, we can finish the sewing. Finally sew the opening closed and tie of the embroidery thread at the end.
To complete our make a simple teddy bear project, we only have two things left to do. To finish our teddy we need to cut the ribbon and make a little scarf. Wrap the ribbon around your teddy's neck and tie a nice bow.
Finally the last stage is to give your teddy a name and welcome them to the world with a big hug.
