These Fun Fishing Games Have Been Around For Years
Actually, these fun fishing games have probably been around for a hundred years. There is something about its absolute simplicity that makes it really fun and actually kind of addictive.
You need a little skill to play this fun fishing game. But it is not too difficult for even the youngest of children to make and play.
Make a pond full of fish and maybe put a score on each fish. Why not make fish of different sizes for an extra challenge.
So what do we need to make a fun fishing game for kids?
- Thick paper or thin card in different colours
- Wax crayons
- Brush pens or watercolour paints, or just paint
- Paper clips
- String
- Wooden stick
- Coloured sticky paper
- A magnet
- Scissors
How To Make A Paper Fishing Game
Step One
Draw a fish outline on the paper or card. Your fish doesn't have to look exactly like a fish, so don't worry if you can't draw. Weird looking fish are funnier in my opinion.
Search fish shape template on the internet if you want to print a fish shape to copy.
If you don't want to make a fun fishing game for kids, why not swap it for dinosaurs or cars or anything. For a more adventurous game, make up your own animals or objects and draw those shapes on the card.
Paint The Fish Counters For The Game
Step Two
Now we are going to try a clever painting effect with the wax crayon. Decorate the fish by drawing on details with the wax crayon.
Draw eyes and a mouth and scales and fins. Draw patterns or shapes or numbers if you want to have fish of different values.

Step Three
Now we use the paint pens or water colour paints to paint in the fish shape. I really like making a fun fishing game for kids.
As you paint, you will notice that the wax shapes we drew before, are resisting the paint. This is the cool paint effect we are after. Because wax and water can't mix, we can see our wax shapes through the paint. Brilliant!

Finish The Fish Game Pieces
Step Four
Once all the paint is dry we can continue with making our fun fishing game for kids. Carefully cut round each fish with a pair of scissors. Please ask an adult for help.
Now we should have a collection of crazy fish shapes.
Attach Paperclips To The Paper Fish Pieces
Step Five
Now we need to put a paperclip on to the head of each fish shape. If your paperclip does not want to stay on, just tape it on the back with a small piece of tape.

Step Six
Finally, the last thing we need when we make a fun fishing game for kids, is the fishing rod.
Cut your piece of string to around 60cms or 24 inches. Then tie one end of the string to one end of the stick or rod you have.
You can secure it with more tape or a dab of glue.
Then finally tie the magnet to the other end of the string. And wow! Now we can go fishing.
Spread your fishes out on the floor and see how long it takes to catch all the fish. Maybe set a timer for each round and take turns with a friend. Add up the points on the fish to see who the winner is.
