Every Child Needs To Make This Simple Paper Windmill
Having simple paper windmills like this is one of my earliest childhood memories. I now make them with my kids. They are so much fun as they are so colourful and you can make them with almost any papers, coloured, metallic, holographic.
They are both fun to play with and to put in the garden during the warmer summer months. I used to love getting them and taking them to the beach when I was younger.
Craft Materials & Equipment Need For A Simple Paper Windmill
Coloured Paper in 3 Colours
PVA Glue
Paperclip
25cm Dowel
Cork
Scissors
Glue Brush
Ruler
Pencil
Eraser
Fine Grade Sandpaper
Drill
Measurements For A Simple Paper Windmill
1st Stage
You first need to cut out two 15cm squares from coloured paper, use a different colour for each, and glue them together back to back.
2nd Stage
Then use a pencil and ruler to draw diagonal lines in both directions across the centre of the square. Then measure 7cm in from each of the four corners, and mark it with a dot. Use scissors to cut up to the dots and then erase the pencil lines.
Making The Paper Simple Windmill Shape
3rd Stage
Now you can bend over every alternating point into the middle of the square. Then glue all of the points together, holding the paper together firmly until the glue dries.
4th Stage
Take another third colourful paper, and cut out a small circle. Then straighten out a paperclip, be careful as the ends can be quite sharp. Bend one of the ends into a coil, and glue into the middle of the circle piece.
Assembling A Simple Paper Windmill
5th Stage
You now need to gently and carefully push the other end of the paperclip through the middle of the windmill. Take a wooden dowel and sand both ends smooth. Then drill a small hole at one end of the dowel that is 3cm from the end.
6th Stage
Next, push the sharp end of the paperclip through the small hole that you made in the dowel. Put some glue onto the end of the paperclip and push it into a piece of cork, which will prevent any poking.
