Peg Dolls Are Funny Characters for Playing With
Peg dolls are a great way to start making your own characters. These wooden dolls are a nice small size and will fit perfectly in a cardboard box doll's house.
Dress them up in many different outfit. It is easy to make a whole peg doll family.
Here we are making some peg doll angels. We will use them to decorate our Christmas tree. Maybe also think about making a peg doll Father Christmas and some funny little peggy reindeers.
What We Need To Make Peg Dolls
- Wooden pegs
- Black felt tip pen
- Silver pen for shoes
- Scraps of lace and cotton for the dresses
- Scissors
- Glue
- Pipe cleaner
- Silver card for wings
- White ribbon
Start Making Your Peg Doll Angel
First we will use the black felt tip pen to draw a happy face on our peg doll. If you want to make more peg doll characters, think about there personalities and who they are. Are they happy or sad or grumpy. You can then draw a face that matches.
Draw some eyes and a mouth on our angel. Colour in some feet with the silver pen, to look like shoes.
Dress Up Our Doll Made From a Peg
Next we need to dress up our peg doll. Cut some pieces of white cotton and a piece of lace, 8cms square. Layer the two fabrics on top of each other with the lace at the bottom. Put some glue on the top and centre of the fabrics and lay the peg on top of the squares.
Wrap the fabrics around the peg and apply more glue where needed to secure the dress.
If you need to add a few more blobs of glue to hold the dress on, this is ok.
Now We Need Some Wings For Our Angel
Using a pencil, draw a small pair of wings on the silver paper. Using your scissors, cut out the wings. Put a small amount of glue on the wings and attach them to the back of the peg.
Finishing Our Peg Doll
To finish, we just need to make a little halo. Use a pipe cleaner and wrap it into a circle shape. Glue the halo onto your peg's head. Now finally cut a length of white ribbon approximately 20cms long. Tie it around the peg's neck and we have a little hanging loop.
And there we have our very first little peg character. Really you can make any peg person you like. Dress them up however you like. And have fun making a funny story.
