How To Make Cocoa Butter Lip Balm
Lip balm sticks you can buy all over the place are generally made with petroleum. This is not a fine, quality ingredient and we can do better if we make our lip balm ourselves. Lip balm sticks need more beeswax to make them stiffer and firmer. The cocoa butter lip balm sticks can be a little tricky to fill, so you will need a steady hand. But luckily the containers are not that hard to find now-a-days.
It is easier to make a batch of four and hand them out as gifts. Than it is to try and weigh out the exact quantities to make yourself just one.
Top tip. When we come to filling the holders, we place then in a tray of cold water and just fill them a little way first. This will quickly produce a stopper at the bottom of the tube. This prevents all the mixture simply running through the tube and going everywhere.
If the mixture starts to set and becomes too hard to pour before you have finished, just simply pop the glass jar in some boiling water to re-melt. Then start pouring again.

Getting Ready To Pour Our Lip Balm Sticks

Step Five
Now we need to have good timing. We want the melted mixture to cool slightly, so when it comes into contact with the cold water in the tray on the outside of the lip balm tubes, it will solidify quickly. If it is too hot it will remain liquid and just run out the bottom.
So let the mixture cool slightly. If you let it cool too much, obviously we will not be able to pour it.
Once you feel you are at the right temperature, very carefully pour a small portion of the melted mixture into the bottom of each of the lip balm tube containers.
Let this little plug solidify.
Once solid, fill the rest of the tubes up.
