Painted Flower Pots Makes Gardening Extra Fun
Gardening is a wonderful hobby on it's own. With jobs to do most of the year round. But if you find you are missing a bit of bright colour in your garden in some months. We can add that colour back with some fun bright painted flower pots.
A great project for yourself or a wonderful gift for someone else. Painted flower pots are a fun little project any time of year.
Paint some bright pots and fill your window sills with aromatic herbs.
What do we need to make painted flower pots?
- Terracotta pots
- White acrylic paints and other colours
- Paintbrush
- Newspaper
Start Painting Your Garden Pots
Step One
It's probably best to lay down some newspaper or similar in case we make a mess. You can put a wad of kitchen paper under your pot to stop it wobbling around as you are painting.
Also, consider painting one side and then letting it dry before painting the next side. This will stop you smudging your paintwork.
First, we paint the outside of the pot with white acrylic. Then let it dry. The reason we paint it white first is because it will make the colours we paint on top might brighter.
Think Of A Design For Your Garden Pots
Step Two
Now we have a white flower pot, this is the real start of our painted flower pot project. Think about fun designs and bright colours.
Often simple designs, look great and are not too difficult to complete.
Dots and stripes work really well. Stars and flowers are great. Also words are good. Maybe name your flower pots according to what you want to grow in them. Or maybe whose flower pots they are.
But really, be creative. These are your designs, have fun painting a design you like. And don't worry, if you do something you don't like, just let the paint dry and paint it back to white again.
Continue Painting Your Plant Pots
Step Three
Paint more blocks of colours first. Then once each paint layer has dried, paint smaller and smaller details.
Paint some stripes next if you like. Then end with some dots.
Painted flower pots are really mostly about just having fun. Look to the internet for simple design inspiration. And have fun painting more and more pots. The more pots you paint, the more ideas you will have of what styles you like.
Remember, you can always repaint any parts of your pots that you don't like.
