Materials Needed To Craft Quilted Baby Shoes
- 8 x 8in. (20 x 20cm) piece of small floral print fabric
- 8 x 14in. (20 x 35cm) piece of Bondaweb
- 8 x 14in. (20 x 35cm) piece of cotton batting (wadding)
- 6 x 6in. (15 x 15cm) piece of large floral print fabric
- Coordinating pearl embroidery floss
- Coordinating beads and sequins
- 8in. (20cm) of lace trimming
- Eyelet punch
- 24in. (60cm) of narrow ribbon
Prepare the Quilted Fabric
Step One
Cut an 8 x 8-inch (20 x 20 cm) piece of Bondaweb and iron it onto the wrong side of the small floral print fabric. Remove the paper backing from the Bondaweb. Cut an 8 x 8-inch (20 x 20 cm) piece of cotton batting and place it on top of the Bondaweb layer. Iron the layers together until they are securely fixed. Repeat this process using the large floral print fabric.
Cut Out the Quilted Baby Shoe Pieces
Step Two
Duplicate the baby shoe templates, flipping the sole piece to create both right and left pieces for each foot. Pin the shoe templates for the top of the shoes onto the small floral print fabric, positioning them to feature the motifs in the design. Pin the sole templates onto the large floral print fabric. Cut out all the shoe pieces.
Add Embellishments
Step Three
Embellish the front top piece of each baby shoe with simple hand embroidery, coordinating beads, and sequins. Hand stitch a length of lace trimming along the top edge of each front shoe piece.
Assemble the Quilted Baby Shoes
Step Four
Pin the back and then the front of each shoe onto the sole. Secure all the pieces of the shoe together by working a blanket stitch around the edge of each sole.
Finishing Touches
Step Five
Cut the length of ribbon in half. Use the eyelet punch to create small holes at the tips on either side of the shoe backs. Thread a length of ribbon through each hole and tie it in a pretty bow.
With your creative touch and these simple steps, you'll have an adorable pair of quilted baby shoes that are perfect for gifting or keeping as a precious keepsake.
