Start Making Your Quilted Evening Bag
Step One: Prepare the Bag Fabric
Begin by cutting a 14 x 18-inch (35 x 45 cm) piece of lilac cotton fabric. Place the fabric wrong side up and iron a piece of Bondaweb on top. Peel off the backing and then layer on a piece of lining fabric, securing it with an iron. Position the bag template onto the layered fabric, trace around it, and cut out the front and back bag pieces.
Step Two: Embellish the Front
Cut a 2 x 12-inch (5 x 30 cm) strip of floral fabric. Apply Bondaweb to the reverse of the floral strip and also to the reverse of the blue and yellow silk strips. Arrange and adhere the three strips to the front bag piece, using the provided photograph as a reference for positioning. Set your sewing machine to an open zigzag stitch and sew along the edge of each strip to finish.
Start The Assembly
Step Three: Assemble the Bag
Place the front and back of the bag together with right sides facing. Machine stitch down the sides and along the bottom, using a 5/8-inch (15mm) seam allowance, but leave the corner angles unstitched as shown. Press the seams flat.
To create the base corner gusset, separate the front and back of the bag, then flatten the bag the other way so that the side seam and bottom seams align, pulling the corner angle into a straight line. Stitch across the corner and repeat on the other side before turning the bag right side out.
Step Four: Add the Facing
Use the facing template to cut two facing pieces from the remaining lilac cotton fabric. Join the facing pieces right sides together by machine stitching down the short sides with a 5/8-inch (15mm) seam. Turn the facing over by 1/4 inch (5mm) along the longer edge and press it.

Step Five: Attach the Facing
Pin the facing around the top of the bag with right sides facing, ensuring the narrower edge is at the top. Machine stitch around the top approximately 1/4 inch (5mm) from the edge. Fold the facing over to the inside, leaving a narrow band showing on the front. Secure the facing in place by working a slip stitch around the inside of the bag, ensuring the stitching remains hidden from the front.
Step Six: Create the Strap
Cut a 4 x 12-inch (10 x 30 cm) length of floral fabric and apply fusible interfacing to the wrong side. Fold the strap in half lengthwise with right sides facing and machine stitch along the length. Turn the tube right side out and press it, ensuring the seam runs down the center of the width.

Step Seven: Attach the Strap
Pin the bag strap in place on each side of the top, folding each end under by 1/4 inch (5mm) to neaten raw edges. Hand-stitch the strap securely to the inside of the bag, ensuring the stitches do not show on the front.
Step Eight: Final Touches
Using the remaining floral fabric, craft a large yo-yo (Suffolk puff). Stitch the yo-yo onto the front of the bag at the top corner. Add a button to the center of the yo-yo. Finally, secure a snap fastener (press stud) inside the bag to keep it closed.
With these detailed steps, you'll create a captivating quilted evening bag that not only showcases your creativity but also adds a touch of elegance to any outfit.
