Question Asked:

Hello, I have just been given a load of pieces of leather strapping that I wanted to try and make something with. But unfortunately I am not the quickest of learners and I like to take things at my own pace. So I know there are a lot of good tutorials on YouTube, and some amazing channels and very talented individuals. But for me personally, I don't know what it is, I just find I like a written tutorial a lot better.

I find if someone has taken the time to write out clearly what I have to do; and if there are some good images that are easy to follow; then if find learning from a written tutorial is much more preferable to watching a YouTube video tutorial. Plus I can print out a written tutorial and keep it.

I frankly find it pretty annoying having to stop and start all the time ad go back a little bit and then getting lost in their video. It takes all the fun out of the learning process. And like I said, they are trying to make a video to appeal to the masses, but I really like to do my learning at a slower pace. So even the best YouTube video tutorial really would be tricky for me to learn from.

I also really only want to do something quite basic. I really would eventually like to make a beautiful leather wallet. And maybe a nice leather purse for my daughter for a gift. But I thought I would start by trying some weaving on these leather strands. I want to make some bracelets or necklaces or maybe even learn about how to make longer leather straps for something.

Come to think about it, when I was a kid, a long time ago, my mother had one of those leather Indian neck wallet pouches. The ones that hang around the neck and lay on the chest. And the top piece slides up the leather strap so you can get in the pouch.

I think it would be interesting to eventually learn the correct techniques to make something like that.

But like I said, I really am looking for a good website or written tutorials on the basics of leatherwork. Leather tools, materials, leatherwork techniques. But again, I find it slightly annoying watching video tutorials and would rather read a tutorial.

So if anyone know any good resources, that would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance
Bernard
