Question Asked:

I have seen these sewing patterns for dolls in my local Hobbycraft, and I would really love to make some clothes for my daughters new dolls for her Birthday in February (It will no doubt become an ongoing project, and it would be great to get her involved at some point). Does anyone know what are the best types of fabric for sewing clothes for dolls? I am guessing that it would be something light that drapes easily, as something heavy and ridged would not sit well on a dolls body due to its smaller scale.

Has anyone had any experience with making/sewing dolls clothing? I would love to hear any tips and tricks that you might have. Where to get the best fabrics? Any other accessories that can be made for dolls fashion? Would my daughters old clothes that she has outgrown or ripped be suitable for cutting up and making into dolls clothing if it is a lightweight fabric?

Thank you for your time.

I use very lightweight fabrics like a lightweight cotton or linen, cotton polyester blends, and offcuts of fabrics. Through experimenting with making dresses for my daughters dolls, I found that the heavier fabrics didn't sit right on the dolls, making them look unnatural. It is also very difficult to sew heavier fabrics on such a small scale, it loses all detail.
