Question Asked:
Help! I am totally tired of buying scissors! I've had dozens of pairs of scissors over the year and they are now all over my place. They break, they get dull, I take them places and lose them and I've given loads away because I start to hate them, but I do struggle to throw them away. For some reason I think they are going to magically stop being completely annoying.
I've had one pair of amazingly sharp scissors in my life and I used them to death. They finally got totally gummed up with some strange gluey substance that made them so hard to work in the end. It made them useless. And the irony is, that I don't know where they came from and they have no brand name on them. But they were really sharp and large and actually sharp all the way down the length of the blades. Something I don't think any of my other scissors actually are.
It's very hard to get a pair of scissors with that tight fit, but not so tight that they are hard to open and close with your hand. And then get the blades to, first be sharp, and then meet together precisely to cut easily. Then to do that all the way down the length of the blades, huff!
I have to admit it, scissors are a complete mystery to me. But I have to be double honest, I think I keep cheaping out when I buy them. The thing is I know good scissors can be very expensive, but I also know how rubbish some scissors can be, regardless of price.
So, I would, once and for all, like to know what the answer is to my scissor questions?
I have to admit, I do like a bigger set of scissors, my really sharp pair I used to have where quite big and it was a joy cutting with them.
So can someone, please anyone, recommend a super pair of scissors for cutting paper and card? And then I would like another pair for cutting fabric?
I know I have been naughty in the past and just used the same pair for cutting everything, which I have read you are not supposed to do.
I don't mind spending the money, if they are the last pair I ever have to buy :)
So what is your favourite brand of scissors and why?
I think I'll cut of off here :)
