Question Asked:
I was given these beautiful old vintage Ercol dining chairs by my Great Auntie. I have always admired them and she was kind enough to give them to me. My Great Auntie lives in a gorgeous old Grade II Listed stone house, and they complemented both the exterior and interior really well. However, I live in quite a modern house, so they may need refurbishing a little, possibly painting the wood, I was thinking either black or very pale, like white or a chalky colour. Then reupholstering the seat pads with a different fabric. I would love to hear opinions and ideas on the best way to update these lovely dining chairs.
Part of me does think that alternatively they could be re-varnished instead of painting to keep the wood. And then just choose a new fabric for the seat pads. I really cannot decide what to do with them. I just know that I would like them to look their very best, as I have had my eyes on these for a very long time. Ercol made loads of beautiful furniture, and I have noticed that vintage Ercol furniture and vintage Stag Minstrel furniture is really popular for furniture upcycling at the moment.
I would love to see everyone's pictures of vintage furniture that you have updated or added to.
Thank you.
