Hi, I have ended up with these cable reels from a project and I was wondering if anyone has ever made anything really interesting with them.

I know the obvious thing is to just pop a piece of glass on top and call it a coffee table. It's a weird coincidence because I actually have a perfectly round piece of glass that fits on top of one of the reels. As you can see from the picture. But I just think this is kind of a useless piece of furniture. It's maybe, I feel, a bit too easy and obvious and been done a million times before.

I was wondering if anyone has actually ever done anything original and interesting with these reels. They really do feel like they should be used for something else, after their work life is done. The ones we end up with aren't even recycled. The company don't want them back, what a waste.

I know there are a lot of creative people out there. Maybe I could stack them up or stand them on their end. Not sure. I could just actually dismantle them and rebuild something completely new.

Maybe if I built a frame and raised it off the ground. It could retain the feel of the industrial, I don't mind that. But then it might be more useful. Like some sort of bar table. Actually this might be quite interesting. But then what finish could I do? Maybe something to do with resin or beer bottle labels would be quite cool.

Some sort of industrial theme, might not be too bad. If you have done anything like this, please post your image in return. It would be really cool to see what you have created.

I'm really not sure what to do. I don't mind doing a bit or work. It just seems like a terrible waste to chuck them.
