I am going to a concert in October and I have a denim jacket that I would really like to decorate. I would like to paint onto the back of the jacket, and I am wondering what would be the best paint to use? It is quite a dark blue denim. Can I use normal acrylic paint or do I have to buy proper fabric paint? Any other ideas would be most welcome.

Also, do I need to use a special brush or do anything special to prepare the surface of the denim jacket before painting it to make the paint stick better? I have never painted an item of clothing before, so any help is really appreciated.

I already have loads of acrylic paint, so it would be really handy if I could use that, but I am happy to buy the proper fabric paint if I need to.

I think I only want to do quite a simple design, probably in black and white. It is also not essential that I use this particular denim jacket as I have my eye on a white denim jacket also. I really just want to make something special to wear, that is unique and no one else will have a jacket that is the same.
