Can anyone shed light on what this tool was used for? It is a bit of a mystery. A friend said it may have been used to put coals in and heat something, like an old fashioned bed pan. But I think it's too small for that.

I thought it might be for making some sort of decorative bricks or something, but I don't think you would get enough compression with the long handles as they are. I would imagine it would have more of a lock or latch to clamp it for something like that.

I don't know, glass maybe or casting, maybe it spins when held together.
