Hello, I just wanted to show off this beautiful stained glass room divider my mother and father made together in the 90s.

My parents are both very creative and were always making things together when I was growing up. They were always doing some sort of upcycling, well before it was trendy. Or making pottery or things for the garden. There is actually a mini grotto at the bottom of our garden with the walls covered in seashells we stole off the beach over many many years. I remember they even reupholstered an old sofa they found. It was a wonderful creative environment to grow up in.

But, for some reason, I really loved the stained glass room divider they made when I was a small child. I actually remember them making it, and I remember it took them ages. I remember my father drawing it out. I remember trying to help and remember being told not to play with the pieces of glass. I remember my mother chipping the coloured glass and melting the joints together.

I remember my father heating and bending the metal frame and then them both making more and more stained glass insert pieces. It took them ages. I'm not sure why they did it but it really does add a beautiful detail to our garden room and is a real talking point when people come round. And when the sun shines through the stained glass, to this day, it is still magical.

They said they just did it just for fun, but I never knew them not totally in love, and to this day, I find their creativity very romantic.

My father died this year and it was like a huge part of my life totally dissolved away. He was a wonderful man and even though he is not here anymore, he has left me with so many happy memories and so many wonderful creations that I get to touch and enjoy everyday still.

And when it's sunny and the light hits the stained glass at just the angle, my mother and I feel like he is still in the room with us.
