Question Asked:

I was in my local craft store today looking at the polymer clay for some jewellery making projects. I was wondering what is the difference between FIMO professional and FIMO soft polymer clay? I could see that the professional is slightly more expensive, but I could not see anything that would explain the difference between the two. They had lots of other types of FIMO polymer clay there also, but I do not currently need any special effects for what I am working on.

I am mostly hoping to make jewellery projects and possibly some small bowls for storing rings and earrings. Then maybe other things like decorative keyrings. I would like to ensure that I choose something appropriate that is not going to break easily. I would also need it to come in lots of different colours as I plan to make colourful earrings. I am assuming that you can get both the FIMO professional and the FIMO soft in loads of colours?

Also, does anyone know of the best place to buy FIMO clay for the best price please? I would like to buy quite a lot at once, so ideally, I would like the best value for money.

Thank you in advance.

I would also love to see any FIMO clay projects that you have a made. I am nosy and love to see things that others have created.

Although I do use both, FIMO professional has a firmer consistency which gives the polymer clay more stability when making shapes, adding dimensional detail and texture. It is very well suited to highly detailed clay modelling work. The FIMO soft and other types of FIMO polymer clay have a softer consistency, but are also lovely to work with. For earrings and other jewellery, I would say that either are perfectly fine to use from my experiences.

I agree with Anna, I use both the soft and professional to make jewellery.

I have been using both types of FIMO clay for making earrings. I am yet to try the leather effect FIMO clay though.
